Why the Biblically Based 12 Step Programs Work

May 10, 2013 By David Palmer Leave a Comment

Conversations about the “war on drugs,” a misguided and costly effort to shut down the supply of drugs have resurfaced. My position remains that if addicted people want something badly enough, they will find a way to get it whether it be Martinis, 16 ounce soft drinks or Hostess Twinkies. Drying up demand is the key. If we can persuade people that there is a way to treat their addictions and live a richer life we can save a lot of money and heartache. I am not suggesting that we give up law … [Read more...]

Time is Not Recyclable – Living One Day at a Time

May 8, 2013 By David Palmer Leave a Comment

Pathways to Serenity We’ve all got addictions.  Let’s deal with them. Now When you think about it, we really don't have much choice in life than to deal with things. There is no time out in life. Everything counts. Every day. Every minute. We cannot afford to waste time. I myself spent precious years during my thirties and forties refusing to deal with things without what I perceived to be the benefit of alcohol and tranquilizers. At age 49, I finally faced up to it and after the next 34 … [Read more...]

Sports Icon and famed broadcaster of the Masters Began to find his faith at the 1992 tournament By David Palmer   Pat Summerall died today. He was 82, and it was two days after the end of the 2013 annual Masters golf tournament. The Masters had a special meaning for Summerall. He had been the voice of the Masters for 24 years on CBS, and it was about to come to an end in 1992. That was when he had his epiphany, that moment of truth when he knew that he was in serious trouble with … [Read more...]

The kids are after your prescription drugs

December 25, 2012 By David Palmer

One in eight Arkansas adolescents has taken a prescription pain reliever medication illegally. One in 20 has done so in the past 30 days. And nearly seven percent admit to using an over-the- counter medication to get high, half of them within the past month. Surveys also show that teenagers are more likely to have abused prescription and over-the-counter drugs than street drugs like ecstasy, cocaine, crack and methamphetamines. Why is this important to know and deal with? Because … [Read more...]

For her the days of the locusts have come and gone

December 18, 2012 By David Palmer

My name is Linda.  I am a survivor of verbal, emotional, and sexual abuse in my marriage, and I struggle with multiple facets of co-dependency including pride, control, self-sufficiency, shame, and isolation. Jesus Christ is my Higher Power. I was born in rural Alabama, the youngest of six children of Godly parents. My dad did sharecrop farming and later built houses.  My mom worked hard at home and picked and chopped cotton to buy my school supplies and clothes. We were extremely poor, but I … [Read more...]
